Sites Worth Visiting

MUSIC

Paul van Dyk's official website.  I wish I understood German cuz then I would be able to read everything on it, but oh well.  http://www.paulvandyk.de

My #1 source for music videos by far, and I also get lots of mp3s here.  It takes a while to learn all the commands (I'm told it's like DOS), but it's a great way to chat and share files with people from all over the world who share your interests.  It's not JUST for music, but that's what I use it for.  http://www.mirc.com

Two IRC search engines, which supposedly search every network on IRC in real time for whatever you're looking for. http://www.ircspy.com   &   http://www.packetnews.com

The most comprehensive website I know of for getting info on dance music artists (or pretty much any musician).  You can search by artist or song title, and if you search for an artist it will bring up everything on that person/group, including all their releases, aliases they use, background info, etc.  http://www.discogs.com

TELEVISION/MOVIES

A VERY detailed website on one of my favorite shows, "Even Stevens".  Even though the show is over, it's still awesome in my opinion.  The site has everything:  video clips, show summaries, pictures, a forum, etc.  http://www.evenstevens.net

Another one of my favorite shows that hasn't been running since 1990 (before there was even a such thing as websites), but its site is still updated.  I grew up with "You Can't Do That On Television", and it's even funnier now when I watch it because I actually get the jokes.  It's not shown anymore, but I have a bunch of episodes on VHS and DVD.  The site has a lot of stuff:  episode guide, FAQs, interviews, photos, video clips, etc.  http://www.ycdtotv.com

The most detailed movie database on the web, IMDB has been around for over 15 years.  Look up a movie or actor to learn everything you've ever wanted to know about it/him/her, including goofs, trivia, box office figures, and message boards.  The site also has similar information on tv shows.  http://www.imdb.com

Rent all the DVDs you want for about $20 a month, all done thru the mail:  they send you the movie postage-free (up to three at a time), you watch them when you want, and send them back postage-free, or return them to a Blockbuster store in exchange for a movie on the spot!    http://www.blockbuster.com

The first video game system I ever had was the Intellivision.  This site provides detailed information on the consoles, games, history, and lots more.  http://www.intellivisionlives.com

An extensive collection of television theme songs from the old days to the present.  http://www.televisiontunes.com

SHOPPING

A good place to get things cheap, and the most popular auction site on the web.  There's an insincere person here and there, but for the most part everyone is friendly and holds up their end of the deal.  http://www.ebay.com

A great website to get used CDs, DVDs, and video games.  Everything is checked before it is put up for sale, so you never get a dud product.  I've bought from them a number of times and am very happy.  http://www.secondspin.com

MONEY

More and more sellers on eBay are accepting PayPal payments.  It saves you from having to send a check, and the payment is made instantly using your credit card.  You can also open a PayPal savings account, which pays better interest than any bank will, and you have access to your money at any time with a PayPal ATM card.  http://www.paypal.com

BOWLING

The website to Sacco's Bowl Haven in Somerville's Davis Square, where I bowled in a league from September to April for many years.  They have 15 candlepin lanes and a pool table room.  http://www.saccosbowlhaven.com

The website to Lanes & Games in Cambridge, where I bowled in a league from May to August for several years (and I hope to return very soon).  This is a great place and is quite popular with the locals.  It has 2 floors, featuring candlepin lanes, ten pin lanes, an arcade, pool tables, and a restaurant with a full menu and bar.  http://www.lanesgames.com

COMMENTARY

You're either gonna love or hate this guy, and most people seem to choose the latter.  He's vulgar, he's rude, but he definitely speaks his mind about the issues of the day, and it often ends up being pretty funny.  http://maddox.xmission.com/

"A clear-thinking oasis" as its called, this is the website of renowned evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, who has a lot to say about the dangers of religion.  Whether you agree with him or not, he will definitely get you thinking.  http://richarddawkins.net/
